PREPARE TO BE stunned by the incredible, panoramic mountain views at the WOLF DEN. Located 2.5 hours from Denver, our family's mountain retreat is the perfect basecamp for adventure in Central Colorado — no matter the season. Whether you wish to hike, summit the many surrounding 14ers, cycle, fish, raft, ski, snowshoe or more, the outdoors await! And the Den's cozy interior and bubbling hot tub will help restore you for the next day's activities.
The WOLF DEN sleeps 8 in its main house with additional room for 2 in a private, attached garage apartment. Couples or families will feel as if they have privacy, and yet the home's main living areas are spacious and inviting for shared group meals, conversations or board games.
A well-appointed, modern kitchen and outdoor gas grill make cooking for a hungry crowd easy. Dine at the large kitchen table or opt outside (if the season allows), where a dining table, chairs and unbeatable views create an unforgettable family dinner setting.
After dinner, make lasting memories by roasting s'mores on the outdoor fire pit, stargazing from the hot tub or curling up with a good book in the living room. One of our family's favorite evening activities is to turn off all the lights in the house and sit in the living room counting shooting stars!

+STAY CONNECTED (IF YOU MUST) -- We now offer high-speed Internet via Starlink and our cell service will not disappoint even the most connected teenagers.
+DRIVE YOUR EV -- The garage features a 40-amp Level 2 electric vehicle charging station with a 20 ft. J1772 Cable. Our Denver-area visitors have been loving this addition!
THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BOOKING:
+Absolutely no smoking inside *or* outside. This no-tolerance policy applies to outside because of frequent fire bans and fire danger.
+No loud outdoor music or partying. This is video and audio monitored with exterior security cameras. We like our neighbors!
+No events or undisclosed gatherings with additional guests.
+4WD/AWD recommended in winter.
LOCATION
The Den is a remote mountain home. Plan to arrive prepared with your groceries and necessities. A 30-minute drive reaches several of Colorado’s great mountain towns, including Leadville and Buena Vista. Twin Lakes sits at the base of world-famous Independence Pass, a beautiful 1-hour scenic drive to Aspen. Please note Independence Pass/HWY 82 closes in wintertime. The drive to the nearest ski area, Ski Cooper, is 27 miles.
OUR NEIGHBORHOOD
The Wolf Den is located in a remote mountain town. Twin Lakes is pretty amazing; in fact, our family is a little apprehensive to share it with others. As visitors to the area, please think about your impact to our town and the small surrounding communities. Please respect full-time residents' privacy and solitude. Follow Leave No Trace guidelines when visiting and recreating in the beautiful outdoors, and consider supporting local dining and shopping during your stay.
LEADVILLE RACE EVENTS
The Wolf Den is an excellent place for Leadville 100 race participants and their families. Book early, as these weekends go fast! Our driveway is located off of the Leadville Trail 100 MTB race course. The Leadville Trail 100 Run traces through the Twin Lakes aid station, just minutes away from the house. On race night, you can watch the glow of athletes’ headlamps as they travel up/down Hope Pass. It's pretty spectacular!
DOG- AND FAMILY FRIENDLY
In addition to welcoming owner-approved dogs with a $175 fee, the Wolf Den is also kid and baby friendly. One full-sized crib is located within an upstairs bedroom, and 2 portable cribs are also stored for guest use. Two booster seats may be used for dining, and children may access a supply of toys and books carefully curated by our son.
The Den is our family’s basecamp for backcountry Colorado adventure, and we hope you will consider it for your next Colorado mountain getaway or ski vacation.
